Brentwood, TN — Brentwood Children’s Clinic, in partnership with Mothers’ Milk Bank of Tennessee, is proud to announce the opening of a new Milk Drop Depot, providing local lactating mothers with a convenient and safe location to donate their surplus breast milk to medically fragile infants across the state.
This Milk Drop Depot will serve as an official collection site for approved milk donors. Donated milk is sent to Mothers’ Milk Bank of Tennessee, where it is pasteurized, tested, and distributed to neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) to nourish Tennessee’s most vulnerable babies.
Nurse Practitioner, Evy Hudson at Brentwood Children’s Clinic, understands firsthand the impact donor human milk on preterm infants.
"I am a mom of one-year-old twin girls who were born 13 weeks early. At birth, they were too tiny to tolerate formula, so breast milk was the only option for nutrition in their first weeks of life. Because my own milk would not come in for several days, we relied on donor milk as their main source of nutrition until I could feed them myself. I am so proud to work for a clinic that will be providing a service that supports these selfless moms who donate their own milk to help other babies, like my own, to grow,” said Hudson.
Mothers’ Milk Bank of Tennessee is a nonprofit organization that screens milk donors, processes donated human milk and distributes it to hospitals and families in need of safe donor human milk in outpatient settings.
“This depot marks a significant step toward increasing access to donor milk for families and hospitals. Every ounce of donor milk can make a difference in the life of a premature baby,” said Amy Painter, Executive Director of Mothers’ Milk Bank of Tennessee. “We are thrilled to partner with Brentwood Children’s Clinic to make donating easier for approved donors in Williamson County.”
The opening of the new Milk Drop Depot will be held on Tuesday, May 13 at noon at 95 Seaboard Ln STE 201, Brentwood, TN.
To become a milk donor, individuals must first complete a free health screening through Mothers’ Milk Bank of Tennessee. Once approved, donors can conveniently drop off frozen milk at Brentwood Children’s Clinic during regular business hours.
